CSUEU | Union Leaders to CSU Trustees: Thank You for Catastrophic Leave, Still Need to Prepare More for Next Disaster

CSU Board of Trustees's meeting this week offered CSUEU member leaders the opportunity to highlight key challenges faced by employees during and post the devastating wildfires of last November. Paramount in the midst of any campus emergency, natural or man-made, is ensuring the health and safety of everyone.

Vice President for Representation Rocky Sanchez shared with trustees results of our union survey that showed significant deficiencies in personnel management during last year's closures.

Joining Sanchez were Neil Jacklin, CSUEU President; Tessy Reese, Chair of Unit 2 Healthcare; and Jessica Westbay, Chapter President at CSU Chico.

"It is our hope that this Board and Management will share our concerns and work with us to develop a clearer and stronger plan to handle future disasters that force campus closures and/or endanger the health and safety of CSU employees," said Sanchez.

The Board of Trustees on Wednesday also considered expanding language regarding catastrophic leave that would be more beneficial to all employees.

"We thank Chancellor White for hearing employees' concerns and responding with helpful amendments to the CSU catastrophic leave program that will greatly benefit all employees who might need it in the future," said Jacklin. The Board plans to vote on the matter when trustees next meet in March.
