Obama Wants to Reduce Educational Dropouts
(Fresno CA)
President Obama has a new game plan that will have lasting implications for the American Education System. His goal: Closing low performing schools, fire teachers and principals that haven't improved the academic scores of their students. President Obama is proposing $900 million to states and education districts that agree to drastically change/close or reopen their worst performing schools as charter schools. The president's new policy is a bid to help roughtly between 2,000 and 5,000 schools improve their test scores over the next five years. The $900 million in grants are in addition to the $3.5 billion already given out in last year’s economic stimulus plan.
"At a time when parents, business leaders, and educators are universally pleading for a new approach a new paradigm for preparing today's young people to meet changing global realities, there is great need for open dialogue about the future of education. This book leads the way in informing and guiding that dialogue."
Stephen R. Covey, author, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The Leader in Me on Obama's book The Obama Education Plan: An Education Week Guide
