Facebook Seminar at CSU Fresno

LIFE + OPEN BOOK = BAD IDEA

~Katie Johnson

Katies Johnson presented a great video on the use of Facebook and covered 4 major topics

  1. Privacy Policy Statement
  2. Creating Lists
  3. Privacy Settings
  4. Third Party Applications

If you want your Facebook profile to show up on Google, there isn't much you can do to hide the above information from strangers ... unless you’re willing to violate Facebook’s terms of agreement and make a few factual adjustments to your name, gender, and current city. You can also choose not to belong to a network or be a fan of anything. Meanwhile, lots of people use photos of their dogs in lieu of proper profile photos, so there’s that.

~Helen Popkin from MSNBC

Highlights:

  • Katie stated that Facebook cannot not fully guarantee that only authorized persons will view your account or that third party apps will honor the Privacy Agreements.
  • Public information can be found very easily when using the Facebook search feature.  An important thing to note is that if someone is using an application ie, the Wall, Graffiti or whatever, that is set to public, YOUR comments will appear in a public search query.  That means even if your setting are PRIVATE, your comments on your friends PUBLIC application can be seen by EVERYONE..!

More Information?

If you need help, free feel to contact me or Katie Johnson...!  I'll be adding a few more notes and um, fixing typos, later this weekend as time permits with more stuff like presentation slides and links provided by Katie.  Go 'Dogs...!
